What are the real costs and contingencies involved in moving?
By planning your moving and taking the necessary precautions, you can ensure that your business has a smooth transition and that any down time is minimal. While this may involve extra costs and time in the planning, it can save you $1000’s+ a day in costs and lost revenues. We do it right the first time, so we only need to do it once.
What to Budget For
Installing new phone lines
Need to install new phone lines? Not sure whether your new site has enough for your needs? Learn more about the charges and options in detail in our new phone line information.
Divert your Call
Do you need to change your phone number when you move? If you want to avoid downtime and being cut off from your callers, you’ll need to organise a diversion for your existing phone lines. While we can often reduce the costs of these diversions, it’s still a billable charge by your carrier. If you have to change your phone numbers you will need to place diversions on the existing phone numbers.
Divert your PABX
It’s very important for your phone system technician to set diversions to your new numbers - prior to removing your PABX from your old premises.
If this hasn’t been completed at the time of relocation, you will need to set up at emergency diversion via the telephone exchange at a cost of:
- $70.00 per PSTN Line plus call charges
- $220.00 ISDN Line plus call charges
This means that you will need to pay your line rental still, until it is possible to set an exchange based diversion and disconnect the physical lines from your previous premises.

Broadband and Internet
Did you know that until you give most internet providers a new phone number - most companies won’t relocate your broadband! It’s easy to forget about organising your new internet connection in the confusion of trying to remember everything else about relocating, but if internet is important to your business – it’s one aspect you can’t afford to forget!
To avoid waiting weeks for the internet at your new business premises, make sure you organise your new broadband connection BEFORE you move.
IT Technician:
Your I.T is a separate issue to your phone system. You should have expert I.T help on site to move your servers, computers and be there to trouble shoot when issues arise. For example, perhaps you have a new broadband service that may affect your network? This is just one very common example.
Have a contingency plan in place

Electronic equipment such as PC Servers, Phone Systems and Monitors are often known to fail when moved and for this reason, it’s important to have experts on hand who can solve any problems quickly and efficiently – so you’re not left without.
Pick the right time of the day and week
To keep disruptions to a minimum, it’s best to move your business during downtime. This may mean a Monday morning, a Friday afternoon or for some businesses, it’s best to relocate over a weekend. Work out what your quiet times are and we will schedule your relocation around them.
Down Time
We make every effort to avoid or minimise your business ‘Down time’, however due to numerous unforeseen factors - we suggest you make provision for this occurrence.
Telstra Network Relocations
Check whether you can keep your numbers
Have you spoken to our expert team to see whether you can keep your current phone numbers? If you’re moving within the same exchange area, it shouldn’t be a problem however if you’re moving outside the same Telstra exchange, you will need to budget for carrier charges for the diversions.
Organise the relocating to a new exchange
Moving outside your current Telstra exchange? You’ll need to change your phone numbers and also place diversions on your existing numbers (so there are no disruptions in the relocation process). Diverting calls is a billable charge by carriers, however we have ways to reduce these costs.
